When Chris and Annabelle Lowe at Atlantic Diver in Newquay approached me for new boat fenders this year, we decided we needed more than just the name in the fenders, we needed something which captured what Atlantic Diver are all about.
Good old Google helped us track down an outline of a Blue Shark, which we combined with the name Atlantic Diver to create a unique set of boat fenders for their dive boat.

It was then announced that BBC Country Tracks would be filming on the boat and it would be great to have the new fenders in time for the filming. I am delighted to say, that thanks to the hard work of everyone at the Anchor Marine factory, the fenders arrived 30 minutes before the BBC.

So if you fancy diving wrecks and swimming with Blue Sharks and Basking Sharks this summer, then head on down to sunny Cornwall and give Chris and Annabelle a call at Atlantic Diver - they would love to see you.

Bear Grylls (Chief Scout) opened RIBEX 2010. His motivational style, competitive nature and his passionate belief in helping others to help themselves through his charity work, helped to set the tone for a positive show.

The weather did its best to put a damper on things. But as you would expect, the true spirit of RIBS shone through and I am pleased to say that everyone I spoke to was having a positive show.

Existing customers Cobra RIBS, MRL (Stingher and Predator RIBS) and Wahoo RIBS had plenty of demos booked and confirmed a lot of interest.

I am pleased to confirm that M2M Fenders picked up a number of potential new customers, so all in all a good show.

Another year over and a new decade ahead of us - where did the last 10 years go - that'll be an age thing!! The next 10 years of adventure lies ahead:)

What are my plans for 2010? I have revamped M2M's online store and added some new product ranges to complement the existing lines. I am launching a regular newsletter this month together with a marine product sourcing service for existing customers ahead of the new sailing and boating season in the UK.

I am also working on a new product which will be made in the UK for us and available within the next few months. So lots of positives to start the New Year.

I will be visiting London Boat Show 2010 for a couple of days and hope to see you there.

M2M Fenders Genoa Boat Show

A fleeting visit to the Genoa Boat Show with the kind help of Edward Pedley at MRL . The show is huge. We are talking at least twice the size of Southampton. I walked miles and miles around the show - or should that be kilometres, cuddling a branded boat fender - sad I know.

I met a lot of people from all over Europe in a very short time, including manufacturers, dealers and designers, covering RIBS to superyachts.

I am confident that some of these new contacts will become M2M clients in the near future.

M2M Fenders Southampton Boat Show

Southampton Boat Show was another successful show. We had a number of new customers displaying our boat fenders, including MGM Boats with Aquador and Marco Marine with Dufour.

I am pleased to say we were also supported by Premier Yacht Sales, Cheetah Marine, Pearl Motor Yachts, OnDeck, Cobra RIBS and MRL.

We have also had positive meetings with Mercury UK and Suzuki UK as well as picking up some valuable new contacts for the future.

So all in all a very positive few days, with encouraging signs that people are working hard and doing business, which is great to see in the current market.

Superyacht fender brackets and fender hooks

I am really excited about this new product we have just launched. Handmade from stainless steel and moulded to fit the teak handrail on a superyacht.

These fender brackets and fender hooks are then covered in leather and sheepskin to protect the teak handrail.

The cam cleat and bullseye or line thru make it extremely easy and quick to position the fenders and adjust their height when in place.

We have already had orders in the UK, with additional enquiries from Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

These brackets/hooks really complement our bespoke superyacht hypalon fender and fender cover range.

It's been a while. M2M has had a busy June and July. Seaworks 2009 in June was very positive. We picked up some orders and new customers and hope to export to new countries on the back of it.

July saw us complete a project for a superyacht - including the design and manufacture of a new product (more of that later).

August has seen a visit to Cowes Week with a resupply to OnDeck of OnDeck branded fenders - just in time.

Preparations underway for customers ahead of Southampton Boat Show - including new customers Marco Marine and MGM Boats.

M2M Fenders - the start of our 4th year

Well here we are - the first day in our 4th year. Not a bad day all things considered- five orders, five enquiries, including two from France.

To think it all started with an idea, nine months of research and then a wild leap into the unknown into an industry I had never worked in, had no contacts and knew no one - how exciting.

There is a saying in business - "you have to kiss a lot of frogs" - and boy oh boy have I kissed a lot of frogs:) But I wouldn't have missed it for the world. In the last three years I have met an extraordinary number of people. I have made a whole lot of new friends and had the pleasure of working with some wonderfully positive, kind and supportive human beings.

The first year was a nightmare - including a drive to Split in Croatia and back on a weekend. But what a huge learning curve and what a great foundation of knew knowledge and contacts to work from.

The second year saw our first corporate customers and this last year has seen us consolidate and expand our corporate customer base, while developing our retail customers through our online store - www.m2mfenders.eu

From that very basic idea, we have sold products throughout the UK, to Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Croatia, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey and the USA. This week we are sending our first shipment to Singapore.

We have exhibited at boat shows in the UK, the Netherlands and Dubai.

So what does year 4 hold for M2M Fenders? We are expanding our corporate client base and hope to announce a couple of deals with "household names" in the marine industry within the next few weeks.

We are working hard to develop customers in the UAE and have plans to increase the range of products available through our online store. We have managed to make some inroads into the highly competitive Superyacht Market and are confident that this will continue to develop over the forthcoming year.

Is our 4th year going to be difficult given the current economic climate - yes it is.

Is it going to be hard work - yep - but only a lot.

Am I feeling positive and excited by it all - you bet I am. I can't wait.

Gas Check Marine

A trifle windy and a tad damp - but the sun shone. The coffee and butties in the Ketch Rigger were first class as usual and all in all a good time was had.

Visitor numbers weren't large but those that were there were serious about buying boats and those that made the effort to talk to visitors were very positive.

From a personal point of view it was very worthwhile and I am glad I made the effort. It was good to meet up with existing personal clients with yachts moored at the marina, as well as my commercial clients based at Hamble Point.

I also managed to meet a number of potential new clients and I look forward to supplying them with branded boat fenders and fender covers in the near future and expanding my client base at Hamble Point Marina.

Just back from a very enjoyable RIBEX 2009.

It was good to catch up with exiting customers Cobra RIBS Hunton Powerboats MRL and Parker RIBS.

Also took advantage of the good weather to talk to new and potential customers, as well as looking at new products for our online store.

Numbers may have been down on last year - no surprises there - but everyone was in a positive frame of mind and business was being done. There were a lot of overseas visitors, which is always encouraging.

Back from sunny Dubai - well if you ignore the sand storms and being inside an air conditioned marquee for 7 hours a day. Not much of a suntan - but hey ho.

M2Ms third time exhibiting at the Dubai Boat Show and fingers crossed it will prove to be a successful show - the hard work starts now!! It was great to catch up with people from last year and to meet new people.

The show had a very positive feel about it - despite the woes of the world. I am really hopeful that M2M will be exporting to the Middle East within the next 12 months - which will be fantastic.

What a great show. This year's Southampton Boat Show exceeded my expectations in both orders and interest. I am chuffed to bits that our branded boat fenders were on display with 8 different companies in the marina. These included Ondeck, Premier Marina Yacht Sales, Hunton Powerboats, Pearl Motor Yachts, Aboard Yachts and Finngulf, Parker RIBS, Hanse Yachts UK and Cheetah Marine.

I have picked up a lot of interest from potential customers in the UK, Ireland and Spain and as always, have met some interesting and entertaining people.

I have also managed to find a number of products which I hope to add to our range over the next few months, which will help us to expand into new markets in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. All exciting and positive stuff.

As always, the show gave me the opportunity to catch up with a lot of chums, including Commodore Yachting, Sunvil Holidays, Sail Ionian, C-Marine, D2Marine, Boatshed, Versa Dock and MRL.

M2M Fenders made a little bit of our own history when we became involved with the Havengore earlier on this year.

Built in 1956 for the London Port Authority, the Havengore still plies her trade on the River Thames, with the occasional visit to the Isle of Wight for Cowes Week.

During her time with the London Port Authority she performed many important duties and in 1965 she was called upon to carry the body of Sir Winston Churchill up the Thames in his State Funeral.

A beautiful craft steeped in history, she is available for exclusive cruises on the River Thames.

Our Cowes Week 2008 started off with fitting fenders onto the pontoons at the Sealift in the River Medina. Not an easy job at the best of times. Never having being blessed with an ounce of patience or DIY skills, drilling into hardwood from a small boat proved a tad too tricky.

Not one to give up lightly, reverting to hanging off the pontoons proved the easier option - despite breaking a drill bit and kicking a drill into the sea - DOH!! Anyway - the results were worth the 5 hour struggle.

We attended the launch of Boatshed Boat Bid on the Saturday hosted by Ondeck and Earls Court Boat Show - all very exciting - and then spent the day wandering and trying to spot M2M fenders on display (maybe I need to get out more).

Anyway, managed to spot Made 2 Measure Fenders on ONDECK a new Elan supplied by Premier Yacht Sales and Sail4Cancer fenders on the Profile Sailing Beneteau.

Not a bad showing for Cowes Week 2008.

Theo was born, happy and healthy, on New Year's Eve 2006. At the age of six months, he was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition of the retina called Leber's Congenital Amaurosis (LCA). He is now blind, and there is no treatment or cure - yet.

Theo's godfather Mike has set about raising funds £7,600 pledged so far, towards the cost of a Light Scanner System (costs £27,000) for the renowned team at Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, who are carrying out pioneering research into LCA.

Mike is raising these funds by sailing an 19' Cape Cutter called Theo's Future around Britain, leaving Bosham Quay on 5th July 2008 at 9.30 am - time and tide waits for no man.

We had 3 customers exhibiting at RIBEX this year, Parker RIBS, MRL (Predator and Stingher RIBS) and Wahoo RIBS. All had our fenders on display - thanks guys.

We also received a lot of interest from other RIB companies and are very hopeful that we will soon have a number of them as customers.

One of the highlights of our visit was a blast in a Parker RIB. With 2 x 250 on the back it wasn't slow. The donuts were entertaining, especially when they were so tight water was coming on board. Great fun - but I can't help thinking driving one would be more fun than hanging on like a lunatic with flattened cheeks and tears streaming - despite sunglasses.

The RNLI weren't impressed bless them - something about speeding within the Medina - at least I thinks thats what they said. Cheers Rich - hope for a repeat soon.

Now that the show is over time is moving on faster than ever towards the start of the season in the UK.

We had a great show with a lot of interest from a number of dealers and distributors, including Rib Eye, Crownline, Horizon, Doral, Sea Ray, Parker Ribs and Churchhouse Boats, to name but a few.

One of the highlights of the show was being able to show our support for Theo's Future. A 19 foot Cape Cutter from Honnor Marine is sailing round the UK in July to raise money for young Theo's cause. Please visit the site www.theosfuture.org to show your support.

Earls Court Boat Show and Sail4cancer

I have just spent 3 days helping the guys on the Sail4cancer Stand IJ43 at the Earls Court Boat Show. We have received some wonderful support and people have been very generous.

I addition to raising money we have been trying to raise the profile of the Charity. People have been kind enough to offer their sailing skills and expertise, as well as their yachts, their time and their advice - all of which is invaluable.

Have a great day out at the show - it is different to other boat shows. There is a wonderful atmosphere and plenty to do and see. Oh and while you're at it, don't forget to visit Sail4cancer on stand IJ43. Thank you for your support.

The site is designed to allow Boatshed.com brokers to order branded and personalised boat fenders for their customers, avoiding the need for them to hold stock.

DHL competing in the Sunsail 37 class and skippered by Mike Conway had a "fun weekend" at the start of Cowes Week. While not setting the world alight with their results, they competed strongly and have survived to fight another day.

Branded fenders are available via the club or direct from Made 2 Measure Fenders website.

The Whyte & Mackay Earls Court Boat Show 2007 (1st December to 9th December) has a magazine coming out in time for Cowes Week giving up to date information on the show and the exhibitors.

The Whyte & Mackay Earls Court Boat Show News will then be distributed through all the other sailing and powerboat events around the country, with a second publication due in October.

I am delighted to confirm our stand at the Earls Court Boat Show 2007 and look forward to working with and supporting sail4cancer at the show.

I always wanted to support a charity with my business and am delighted to be involved with sail4cancer.

The enthusiasm commitment and creativity sail4cancer have for trying to improve the quality of life for individuals and families affected by this terrible illness, is great to see.

Projects such as "keep it in the dark" and their association with companies like Profile Sailing help to increase the awareness of cancer and raise funds to help others.

I recently ran a stand for sail4cancer at the South Wales Boat Show. One of the comments made was that "the charity is only known in the Solent". To help promote the charity beyond the Solent and raise funds for the charity, sail4cancer fenders and fender covers are now available.

Thanks to feedback from Royal Southern members, RSYC fenders are now available in blue as well as white. All we'll do is simply reverse the logo. On the white fender RSYC is in blue. On a blue fender RSYC is in white and there is a white edging to the burgee.

Royal Southern Yacht Club will be above the burgee and your yacht name below the burgee.

Samples will be on display at the club shortly and volume discounts are available for 4 or more fenders.

Online store revamp

What a day Friday. Spent 6 hours making the store simpler and revamping the prices. The good news is that prices have been reduced by between 4% and 21%.

Royal Southern Yacht Club and Royal Corinthian Yacht Club Cowes now have a more streamlined ordering system and we will include yacht/boat names with the club burgee at no extra cost. Prices have been reduced by between 12% and 19%.

Moody Owners Association and Bavaria Owners Association have also seen price reductions of between 10% and 19%. A more streamlined ordering system has been introduced as well as the ability to include a yacht/boat name at no extra.

Volume discounts also apply to orders of 4 or more fenders.

Any thoughts and feedback are always welcome. If you are a member of a yacht or sailing club and would like a set of fenders with the club burgee and your boat name, please let us know.

Last week I delivered the first set of branded fenders to Shane Rowe at A - Board Yachts http://www.aboardyachts.com I combined the A-Board Yachts logo with the Finngulf logo and integrated them into the fenders. They look very smart and there is enough room to add individual boat names to the logos in future productions.

Here's to a long and prosperous business relationship Shane.
